Parallax

Parallax

When a sound source is relatively far away from the listener, the source angle for the left and the right ear is almost the same. Therefore, oftentimes only the source angle with respect to the center of the head is used to calculate the HRTF. However, when the source is close to the listener, the source angle for the left and the right ear is actually different - this is called "parallax". To achieve maximum accuracy and realism, trueSpatial considers the parallax effect and evaluates the HRTFs for both ears separately. In many cases, this effect is somewhat subtle, but for sources that are very close to, or even inside the listener's head, the parallax effect can be quite significant; this is also true for sources with strong directivities.

Each atmokyRenderer plug-in has a parallax property that can be set to true (default) or false. When set to true, the parallax effect is considered, otherwise the source angle is calculated with respect to the center of the head.
